I'm Canon. Can't say which is better because I have never used a Nikon. I have seen great photos taken with both and I believe it's the photographer that makes the shot not the camera. I'm happy with my Canon's. I get good color saturation and I find them easy to use. So it's just a be of personal preference. Taken with a Canon
Currently using a Nikon D50... 2 Main reasons why... 1... I undergo a Nikon F55 so the lenses from that were straight forward to use on the D50. 2... I got to use one for a friends wedding and was very pleased with the results before I bought mine (my friends were happy too they paid for the shots!). I just wish I could get a DSLR version of the old Zenith TTL. I had one fell down the side of a small mountain with it only just scratched the paintwork internally everything was still perfect!I have used a number of different cameras over the years and with each I have had some fantastic results (and some not so great as well). So to the people who wish to argue over which camera brand is better I say one of 2 things...1. It's a subjective matter one camera system/brand may suit one whilst a different one may suit another.2. Get a life! Life is too short for playing the game of my dad's bigger than your dad.. ;O)
I have canon EOS 400 D and i love it. I have never used Nikon. I believe its mostly depends on the photographer.!! I think If you compare DSLR's in the same class in Canon n Nikon..!!Canon has better noise performance..!Canon has some world class lenses..!But after all it depends on the person who's using it..!!
I have canon 350D and this is my first DSLR. Overall i'm quite satisfied with this one. Never used Nikon so no comments on. I think comparing these two is like "Which is better... your left eye or the right one?"It's more of first day choice and then when u have lenses of one brand it's more likely that one gets sticks to that brand. Last but not least it's all personal choice.
Like many others. I use cannon because that is what my wife uses. I started with a point and shoot Nikon but my wife had a Rebel. Then we bought a EOS 3 (Film) and then now a Rebel XT. We have invested a lot into lenses and such sooo. Looking to get a 40D soon though. That seems nice.
I got myself a CANON 40D with a 28mm-135mm lens and got a 10mm-22mm super wide go lens also my old camera was a Sony mavica and Pentax optio. I looked at Nikon's but I liked the new Canon 40d i had this camera for two weeks now the pictures are surperb. I guess it is personel prefrences that makes a person buy what they like. "yeeeee haw"My new Canon 40DOne of my first pictures with this Canon 40DPlease view in original size for excellent detail.
If you have the money buy a leica or a hasselblad. BUT. I heard that a famous leica photographer sold all his gear to switch to nikon due to the high quality of nikon glass. I have a nikon D70s it works pretty fine if you have some knowledges in the process. And I don't evaluate canon has so bad ergonomics. It's true for the 300-350-400D but completely false for the 10-20-30-40-D canon 5d etc...
Hmmmmmm what a contentious topic for discussion!!! It's a bit like the North/South London Divide. Personally Nikon- when it came to choosing a camera to buy. I couldn't stretch to the 5D so went for the D200 & haven't been dissapointed yet!I would however in hindsight have opted for the full frame & high ISO noise handling of the Canon 5D (being biased toward landscapes) but have secretly always wanted to own a Nikon. Now that Nikon have released the full frame option that's what I'll be saving up for!!!!But as many have said. I guess it boils drink to handling preferences and the photographer has a large part to play too!! Otherwise we'd all own a Canon 1Ds Mk3 and that'd be that (^_^)
I would undergo to add my vote for Canon but I think that's mainly because I started out with Canon and am now used to the EOS system. In late August. I was visiting my daughter and awaiting the birth of her first child when my trusty digi-Rebel (the original Canon DSLR) bit the dust. While I waited for my replacement 30D to arrive. I tried to use my son-in-law's Nikon. It was a assay and I was never satisfied with the results. Luckily the 30D arrived a mere 3 hours before we left for the hospital!!This kind of strikes me like the Honda/Toyota discussions - you are one or the other. I have had Hondas for years and can't get as comfortable in a Toyota. Funny how we are creatures of apparel!!
I've been a Nikon user since the early Seventies. I presently have the D80 and should be receiving the D300 early in December. I've used Canon p&s cameras the best of which was the Pro1 although its ergonomy wasn't that great with my thumb bumping those little black buttons all the time. I have some great pics taken with it though. We all know that it's not the camera...
Currently have the following:Nikon D8018-200mm VR50mm f/1.8Used a Canon S2 IS for quite a while and it was fantastic. As far as comfort in your hand goes that is a matter of taste for each individual. Anyone trying to sell you on a camera solely because they think it is more comfortable should be ignored.
I am totally new to this hobby and went from a point and shoot digital to my lovely Nikon D40 thanks to my son who chose and gave it to me as a gift!! I would love to have the knowledge to debate this issue.. but I certainly see some wonderful photography on Flickr and many types of camera.. I am now addicted and thirsting to learn more and more!!I smile with Kell... I love my Nikon D40 too!!!! and for someone with very sore hands and limitations.. I find it easy to handle and comfortable! Sorry ipmarth.. looks like I'm to be ignored :-). but it was quite an important issue for me. and if you aren't comfortable with the camera you will not apply it or have the confidence to shoot. Congratulations everyone on wonderful shots and many cameras!
Heh. I'm a Nikon man... :-))The equipment I use mostly is Nikon D70s and D80 body (sometimes also D200) and active lenses are super sharp Micro Nikkor AF 60 mm F 2.8. AF S Nikkor 18-135 mm F/3,5 - 5,6 ED DX. Sigma 10 -20 mm D F/4 -5,6 DC MSM. AF Nikkor 70-300mm F/4-5,6 D ED and several other Sigma lenses.'A D300 is in order... BW
Canon man myself - all the way back to film...... So I guess familiarity has something to do with it. The range of lenses and the act upon reproduction keeps me in the Canon Camp. I undergo freinds that shoot nikon so I guess I like the rivalry as well!
I am saving for a better digital. Have a good Minolta film camera and wonderful lenses. Recently bought a point and injure Canon Supershot SD1000. It is a learning step and find that digital can do some things my film can't but overall get my best shots with the film. Have enough saved for the Canon RebelXti but have changed my mind. I am now leaning towards the Nikon D 80. It will act awhile so could switch back to a higher Canon above the Rebel Xti. It's hard to know.... I want something that lenses won't change if you upgrade and one that shoots good color. undergo a variety of lenses with my film camera but the camera has had so much use it is getting tired. It's nice to give it a rest and have fun learning the digital world change surface if it's a hand size camera. act checking here to see what folks say between the Canon and Nikon D80.
Started with a Nikon D80 and loved it. Now have a D300 and I think I'm in heaven. It's an awesome camera. I never had the right lens on the camera so now I can do macro shots with the D80 and have my 80-400mm on the D300. Can't analyse to Canon because I never had one.
As a hobby photographer. I'm loving my Nikon D70s for brillant - at least for me *lol* - shots and my Sony Cybershot T10 for Lomo's and always having with me... I played around with my friends Canon EOS 350D yesterday and I think they do a great job too. So it doesn't really matter which one you use - just keep inspired.
I undergo read quite a lot of topics here. But. I have to say. I worked quite a lot of years for Nikon Europe first as assistant product manager and much later as Marketing Manager. Both brands I do know very well. Basically my heart belongs to Nikon. And therefore I do say that overall Nikon makes better SLR cameras. But not in the top segment. The decision years ago from Nikon not to start with Full size sensors was a very bad decision. For top quality SLR camera' you need a full coat sensor. Finally Nikon comes to the market with D3. After this introduction I dare to say that Nikon is better than Canon. Overall Canon cameras are also very good there is nothing do by with them but ergonomics used materials colour balance hard saturation Canon is not at the same level as Nikon is manufacturing. Canon has defintely a better marketing department and much more money available because of their other activities as printing video cameras etcetera. Therefore the market share from Canon ordain alsways stay the biggest.
researched both xti & d40x prior to purchase-got completely overwhelmed & confused & frustrated with all the opinions, threads etc went to 3 different camera shops in the area-ALL recommended nikon above canon but said it was personal preference of how it handled & primary shooting goal although they said nikon was better overall they recommended canon if i was shooting high speed or sport/action they also said canon was a little more true to color-nikon was more saturated (which i preferred!) finally my husband decided for me & purchased the d40x with the bag & hurry lens combo better value for the money & i dont experience what i'd do without my hurry overall i am very happy with my camera-my friend got the xti & it is nice too my only complaint on my nikon is that the auto focus is in the lens on the so it eliminates the option for aftermarket lenses (unless i want to manually focus-not quite there yet!) but i hear nikon has the better lens so i'll save & wait!
What do you mean camera singular? ;-) I'm a Nikon kinda gal. I undergo an SLR two DSLRs (D50 and D200) and the CoolPix point and shoot. But I also have a Canon Elph. I love them all for different reasons (though truth be told. I had to buy a book to figure out my D200!). I mainly use the D50.
hmmmi learn a lot about canon and nikon today very informative topic alter now im using sony i lov that got grat shots all the camera brands are able to take WOW shot its be on the person and time not the camera brand but i ll go for nikon heheheh.
I have a relatively new Canon Powershot G9 and I love what it does with all types of photographs. it has 12 megapixels so that I can enlarge the photos I really like. the numerous other features are well worth the small cost.. I have always owned Canon cameras and have yet to be anything but supremely pleased.. This is a recent shot with the G9:
All the way with Nikon!I'm a Nikon D200 User and i say Nikon simply because the brand is exclusively for Photography related products and optical devices this couldn't be a good cerebrate for sticking with it but from my experience with the photo results comparing to some Canon.. i like the Nikon results more.
Out of Canon and Nikon I'd go for Canon all the way. Have used Canon FX-20. Canon AE-1. Canon EOS 1 in the past and am currently using Canon EOS 350D Rebel XT and Canon IXUS 75. Used Nikon E7900 for a couple of years never not for one day got the satisfaction I get with Canon.
I completely agree with Lowie Ortega. You could have the beat camera of either brand and still injure lousy photos if you're not a good photographer. I have owned three Canons and loved them all but I haven't tried a Nikon so I can't say from personal experience which is "better". Camera preference is very individual and I don't think you could ever truly say that either brand is superior. Both have their strengths and comparing is like trying to compare between two Stradivarius violins: everyone will prefer a different sound but the choice is personal.
The question is not so precise to please all users of both brands. I ´m still going analog for 27 years now with an F 3. I am full satisfied with everything but flashlight synchronisation. I like the AI- AIS and the next mountings will still fit my F3. The lighting in "auto" mode is stunning good!! The ridgity I don´t want to desire. I think nowadays it is a matter of which main interest I use it: outdoor/indoor sports wildlife portrait and so on. I evaluate some years ago Canon won the autofocus race. Now nobody ordain be a whole step ahead. At least I could agree with -beatnik-: Never underestimate a pentax! May be best value for money. But I am not a judge at all!!
You have to think about the companies' philosophies really. If you look at the EOS IDS Mark III (Canon's flagship) it's designed as an affordable high go studio camera (affordable compared to the Hasselblad) and the Nikon D3(Nikon's Flagship) is designed as an extremely fast camera for photojournalistic work. I realize that these are both rather pricey cameras to compare.. but remember that most of the displace models are getting the trickle down effect. I will agree with others in saying that I think it really depends on what you're shooting as well as the argument that it depends on who's doing the shooting. I injure Nikon because I started with Nikon and have always had NIkon lenses so it didn't make sense for me to switch. To be honest. I've been dissapointed in the D200's autofocus and noise at all ISOs above 800. However having tried the D300 and the D3 these problems undergo been eliminated and I believe Nikon will be making a really good displace to take approve some of the sports market it lost to Canon years ago.
Mine's a canon 40D had a 10D before that never tried a Nikon so it's difficult to comment on their pros and cons of either brand. I have seen forums elsewhere (not on flickr) that users get very wound up about features and then change from Canon to Nikon and vice-versa must have more money than sense as with a Canon or Nikon you are buying into a system. Seems mad to me to sell all the system off just to get the latest features. Canon or Nikon? I am sure they are both fine cameras and systems - but it's the photographer at the end of the day who creates the image the camera is merely a tool that they use.
Canon has the fastest lenses. Both brands are of equal quality and offer different models at different prices. Perhaps one or other brand may be "better" than the other at a certain price range but not much. Canon has gained ground on Nikon in the last 10 years and now it is rewarding its "user base" with overpriced cameras. $ 150.00 tripod adapters; $ 40.00 lens hoods etc. I am no longer a brand snob. Each are corporations intent on fleecing the consumer. They are equally good in this respect.
I've shot with both over the years. I've always been a Canon man and so I pretty much stick with Canon. Nikon as Marcus Surrealleous said is just as good. Which is better depends on you. Best advice is to go to your local shop handle all the models of all the brands and see which one you like best if you're just starting out. If you have a particular brand like for me it is Canon that you undergo lenses for that will work with the new DSLR cameras then stick with that. That is what ultimately made my decision for me. Of course. I then upgraded all my lenses within a few months so I could have gone Nikon but I didn't realize that it was going to be like that.
My first digi camera (five or so years ago) was an Olympus my second a Canon S3is (which I love) my third ('07 xmas show) a Canon A550 (24/7 handbag camera) and even though I had always planned to get a 400D three days ago when in the camera shop to buy my first slr camera the Nikon D40x which I wasn't even looking at until the guy suggested it impressed me more than the 400D (better comfort ergonomics and price). I will say that every one of these cameras has produced exceptional images but the % of keepers with the dslr blows the others away - as it should being a dslr its not comparable to my others anyway.
Honestly one cannot go do by with either of these brands (or with Pentax and many others!). I have a Nikon D40. When I was shopping for a camera. I looked at what all my favorite flickr contacts were using. The majority were Nikons so that's how I picked my camera!
i was all the times shoting canon p&s the last one was the s5 is and i was always satisfied with the results now i bought my first dslr.. the nikon d300 a outstanding piece of technique gorgeous in colors for me perfect ergonomics together with really good lenses just amazing!but.. for the reason that i never had a canon dslr i cannot compare and i also will not forget.. it is the person that makes the image unique not the camera!
I considered the Canon Digital Rebel series which was in my price be and the Nikon D80 which was at the upper end (and ultimately out of it). What I dislike about the Rebels - and I used to have a 35mm Rebel 2000 - is that they're very lightweight. I know that seems positive but I actually prefer my cameras to have a little heft to them which is why I ended up going with the Pentax K10D. $600 and change for a gorgeous system.
La cámara Canon. Digital Rebel muy buena fotografía el precio razonable entre el rango de su misma categoría la fotografía nítida clara sencilla de manejar excelente. Canon Camera. Digital Rebel very good photography the bring together value range between the same category the photo nitida clear easy to handle excellent.
Just got the Nikon D300 colors great. ISO works great. And finally a camera that feels right in my big hands. But I'm not going to say it is the best camera. :) And is it really important what camera we use? Is the fun of making photos not more important than what mark of camera we use? Is a photographer that use a pentax a lesser photographer than the one that is using a canon or whatever? Is film better or worse than digital? I don't care about it. All I compassionate about is that I have fun with making photos. Think that that "fun"shows more in my photos than what kind of camera i used for it. Greetings and have fun all. Live is to short.
NIKON IS #1I'm a Nikon D200 User and i say Nikon simply because the brand is exclusively for Photography related products and optical devices this couldn't be a good reason for sticking with it but from my undergo with the photo results comparing to some Canon.. i like the Nikon results more colors are way better!!
Prior to getting my current Nikons I used a Canon 35mm. I didn't mind switching over since most of my Canon stuff was stolen. I based my choice on features price and hands on. All said and done. I preferred the feel and handling of the Nikon. Each has their pluses and negatives and it's mostly up to the user. I am not sure either is better although from what I have read (unfortunately not experienced) the Nikon D300 and D3 are going to give Canon a run for the money.
